The Affordable Care Act is expanding access to health insurance to more people and aims to make it more affordable to many. The law also works to make sure American Indians get the care they need for their diverse health care needs.
The Affordable Care Act provides you with more choices when it comes to selecting a health insurance plan. In addition to enrolling directly through an insurance provider, you can now visit the Health Insurance Marketplace to choose among health plans and select the best one for you and your family.
In addition, you can always:
Federal financial assistance may be available to help you pay your health insurance premium when you buy coverage on the Marketplace. The amount of help you receive will depend on your household income.
Most health care coverage plans include cost-sharing — what you pay out of your pocket when you go to a doctor, clinic or hospital. You may be eligible for reductions in the amount of cost-sharing you will be required to pay if you buy coverage through the Marketplace.
While the open enrollment period for most Americans ends in March, you can enroll during a special enrollment period every month for coverage through the new Marketplace.

As many as 90% of uninsured American Indians may receive help paying for health insurance with financial assistance available through the Marketplace.
