There are now new ways to buy health insurance online. This includes the Health Insurance Marketplace, a new government-run shopping site designed to help you more easily find and compare health plans offered by insurers in your area.
You can go online or call to learn about health insurance plans available in your area. Plans on the marketplace offer comprehensive health coverage, from doctors to medications to hospital visits.
You can compare all your health insurance options based on price, benefits, quality, and other features that may be important to you, in plain language.
When you shop on the Health Insurance Marketplace, you may be able to get a new kind of tax credit that will lower your monthly insurance premium. Depending on your situation, you may even be eligible for a $0 premium plan.
You can see what your health insurance premium, deductibles and out-of-pocket costs will be before you make a decision to enroll.
All plans on the marketplace have similar benefits, and all include essential health benefits. Where they differ is on how the costs of the benefits are applied.
Plans on the marketplace are divided into four different levels — Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
Bronze |
Lower monthly payments |
---|---|
Silver |
Higher monthly payment than a Bronze plan |
Gold |
Higher monthly payment than a Silver plan |
Platinum |
Highest monthly payments |
The marketplace also offers a catastrophic health plan option for people under 30 and to some low-income people. A catastrophic health insurance plan has a lower premium than other health plans, but has a high deductible. It is meant to serve as a "safety net" to cover large medical costs in case of a serious illness or injury.
The address of the Marketplace is healthcare.gov . You can access the Marketplace through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana. When you enter your information, it will direct you to the offerings in your state.
